The Islamic philosophy that developed between the 8th and the 14th centuries played a crucial role in the transmission of the great texts of ancient Greek philosophy into the mainstream of Western European philosophy during the Middle Ages. Islamic philosophy was also important in the development of the mystical Sufism of Rumi and the Illuminationist philosophy of Suhrawardi.
